Our planet’s atmosphere needs a healthy Arctic
We all depend on the Arctic to keep the global climate stable, to keep methane and carbon dioxide below its surface from escaping into the atmosphere, and to keep sea levels from rising.
Click on the images below to see facts as to what will happen if the arctic keeps on melting.
Since the Industrial Age, the Arctic has warmed by over 3ºC - that’s twice as fast as the rest of the planet.
Arctic Sea Ice
Arctic sea ice reaches its minimum each September. September Arctic sea ice is now declining at a rate of 12.8 percent per decade due to climate change. The graph on the right shows the average monthly Arctic sea ice extent each September since 1979, and the photo series below shows the annual Arctic sea ice minimum in ten year increments.

Threatening more that just the land.
The melting of the Arctic due to climate change is not only threatening the land but it is also impacting the people and the different species of wildlife that call the Arctic home. Click on an image to learn more.
CHANGING THE WORLD, STARTS AT THE TOP
The Arctic is increasingly becoming a hunting ground for oil companies. We can protect the Arctic from destruction and show that a better future is possible when we work together. Click on an image to learn more.
“We need to save the Arctic not because of the polar bears, and not because it is the most beautiful place in the world, but because our very survival depends upon it.” — Lewis Gordon Pugh
